Why the name Karoro?
When we were looking for a name for our kite design software 'Karoro' came to the fore thanks to a close relationship to our kiting past.Karoro is the NZ Maori name for what is also known as the Black Back Seagull. A tough strong bird with an excellent flying style.Karoro Road (aka K road to the locals) is a west wind kite spot in David Kay’s home town of Ruakaka, New Zealand. An excellent teaching and learning spot thanks to its kilometres of waist deep water. David and Su Kay taught hundreds of new riders at this location over the years they owned and ran a kite school in Ruakaka. With this combination of history and a tie to both New Zealand and flying made the name a perfect choice.
“Collaborating with DK feels like having a partner who turns our ideas into reality. As a Wingfoil rider, I'm seeing some exciting progress in our wing, and I'm stoked for where we're headed with it!”Patrik - Wing Foil Designer
